- Olivia M. Ness, 82, of Greeley died Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Bonell Good Samaritan Community, Greeley.
She was born March 23, 1923, in Santiago, Chile, to Fernando and Olivia (Vial) de Luco.
She spent most of her young life in France and Italy and was part of the French Resistance during World War II.
On June 13, 1945, she married Patrick J. Ness, USAF, in Paris. They later divorced. The Ness family spent many years stationed in the United States and Europe. She became a U.S. citizen in 1954. In 1984, she moved to Greeley from Lincoln, Neb., to be close to her grandchildren.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. Ness enjoyed time with her family and many caring friends. She spoke four languages and enjoyed tutoring, especially in French. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was involved in numerous community organizations.
Survivors are a daughter, Kathleen Burket of Greeley; two sons, Phillip Ness of Houston, Texas, and Patrick Ness of Omaha; three grandchildren, Meredith Burket Fritts of Fort Collins, Nicholas Burket of Boulder and Eliot Ness of Lincoln; a great-grandchild, Olivia Kathleen Fritts of Fort Collins; a step-grandchild, Jessica Zieman of Lincoln; and a nephew, Laurant Duhuesme of Paris.
Her parents, a sister and a nephew are deceased.
